Le Louvre

Today, our first full day in Paris was spent at the Louvre. What a magnificent space and collection! There is just way, way too much to see in one lifetime. So here's some highlights- the brick lined pathway shown in the pictures is actually the moat, which is now one of the entrances to the Louvre. Our guide pointed out to us that the masons who built the moat would mark the stones with a specific stamp, or sign, so that they would get paid correctly for the work that they did. Inside the Louvre, the  glass pyramid by I.M PEI was so impressive! The view from underground was amazing. Once inside, some of the highlights: the Venus de Milo, Winged Victory, Grand Ballroom of Louis XV, of course the Mona Lisa (viewing her took MMA skills and Ninja stealth tactics to beat the crowd). Afterwards, we walked along the Seine, had lunch in a nice bistro and came back to the hotel to soak our feet. We were supposed to have a wine and cheese tasting tonight, but got stood up (travel agent mortified). Tonight, a restaurant suggested by our concierge. Tomorrow, Versailles!
